TONG Magazine ?

When reading the news section on www.winetasting.be I bumped into the launch of a new glossy magazine about wine called Tong. The first issue is about Sauvignon Blanc all over the world which really seems to be an interesting read judging from the preview on the site.
Unfortunately the price of 28€ is really over the top I think. I rather buy a few nice bottles of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and taste this myself.

    Well, you have to see it before you can say it's too expensive. TONG is written by an ever-changing group of specialists on the matter. Read the issue about Sauvignon Blanc and you'll have he essence of it. TONG cannot be compared with any other wine magazine. It's more a "cahier" than a magazine, something to hold on to for the next 10 years.

    The next issue is on terroir. Check it out on the webiste!

    I think I will wait to see if this magazine survives the current dark financial ages somewhat longer and then maybe take a subscription. Meanwhile comments from independent readers would of course be appreciated.

    Maybe you should read Julia Harding MW's comments on www.purplepages.com, Jancis Robinson's website.
    This weekend there will also be an interview with me in The Wall Street Journal. Convinced?

    Sorry Filip, not convinced yet. These purple pages are a paying site (another 79Euro down the drain). That kind of money could buy me a few excellent bottles of wine or a few books to start with.

    Just to be clear: I am not doubting your credibility or anything else, I just say that spending this kind of money is too much for the beginner that I am.
    I have enough other information to read/consult than paying resources or glossy magazines in order to increase my level of knowledge about wines.
